"Why are these fairings called "Dust bins"?

It took a long time for me to find the answer. One of our readers provided it.

Answer: Because they resemble what the English call, "Dust bins". How would an American know this? Americans call these "Trash cans". Once you actually hold a dust bin in your hand, you can see the resemblance and where the name came from.

Before they called them dust bins, the English distainfully called them "Comic tinware" Much more about dustbins will appear in my book.
